How do you make all these crazy computer graphics?
LOTS OF WAYS!
Some of my computer imagery is painted in photoshop, freehand - some of it starts out in some
simple 3d programs, some of it is made of of photos I take with my digital cam - some of it is hand
drawn in pencil or ink and then overhauled in photoshop to take the "conventional art" feel out of it
and make it come across as more potent hiREZ video graphics.
What is "hiREZ"?
hiREZ is an abbreviated term meaning "High Resolution" computer graphics/art. Back in '96 or so, we
were tired of using the somewhat erroneous term "VGA" to refer to our computer works, and me,
Bedlam (of mOp and ACiD fame) and
Rad Man (ACiD Founder) decided to start referring to the work as
simply "hiREZ".. It caught on in no time, and the scene adopted the term for use across the board.
What is "ACiD Productions"?
ACiD Productions is an "Art Group" as we call them - a clique, a club, a collective of computer
artists from around the world who keep in contact via email, mail lists, Irc, etc. We're usually
somewhere between 70-100 members strong, including not only artists, but WebSmiths,
Coders/Programmers, musicians, and logistics coordinators.
ACiD is the oldest surviving computer art group, sprouting in 1990 and growing strong to this day,
over 10 years later. Many other art groups followed suit over the past years, and the whole of us (all
groups and computer art enthusiasts involved) make up what we call the "hiREZ Scene", where ACiD rests
at the scene's core. Within the hiREZ scene, ACiD is thought of as the pinnacle of success, as we lead
the scene month after month, year after year, setting the standards and giving the hiREZ scene a mark
to measure the sub-sects by.
Make sure to stop in and enjoy www.acid.org
often, as we update the site monthly with pride, bringing you ACiD's latest as dilligently as we can.
Can you make me a logo for my business?
Because I am usually overwhelmed with requests of this nature, my answer is usually "sorry, time
doesn't permit it.."
Trying to run a Tattoo Shop and take care of a family leaves me with little "extra" time, and what
spare time I *do* come up with I try to dedicate to works for release with ACiD Productions.
Can you draw me some graphics for my fanboy page?
Once again, I have done this on VERY RARE occasions, because I just don't have the time, and
usually those asking me this aren't interested in paying what it's WORTH to commission a good artist
for what they're wishing for.
Once in awhile I make an exception, but be prepared to pay a fair price! I make a good living as a
tattooist, and don't "need" sideline work doing computer art. I like to keep it in my mind as
"a hobby" since I got out of the real graphics business, it makes it a lot more fun when you're not
doing other people's work, and you have absolute freedom in your creations.
What kind of system do you have?
Currently at home I have a p2-400 with about 30gbs of storage space and 192mbs of ram. I work off
of a 19" monitor, I have a nice AGFA CL-50 digital cam (i highly recommend this
model!), and I still have to access the net via 56k dialup from home (yuck!)
At the tattoo shop all of us have PC's on our desk, networked through a little 5 port hub, so we
enjoy sharing a cable modem up there, and we play a lot of games on the LAN while we're idle at work.
My work computer is a p3-550 with 128mbs of Ram and lots of storage.
It's about time to upgrade them both! =)
I'm trying to do crazy hiREZ graphics and art like this too.. Can you give me any advice or
helpful tips?
PRACTICE. There's no "secret" to doing this, it's all in learning to channel your creativity
through the tools, which means LEARNING the tools - if you like Adobe's Photoshop, read tutorials and
Practice!!
I'm a computer graphics artist and I'd like to know more about being a part of ACiD Productions,
can you give me some more information?
Visit www.acid.org and see what we're all
about, and if you think you've got the skills we expect, email me
(catbones@acid.org) or Rad Man
(radman@acid.org) and point us to some samples of your work!
